HISTORY & CHARACTERISTICS OF THE

BEC JAUNE / YELLOW BEAK CANARY

The Bec Jaune mutation (French: Yellow Beak) appeared in 1993 by the breeder  Mr. José Luis Lozano from Spain/Orihuela (Alicante Province). After today's knowledge it is believed that the bec jaune mutation and the 1992 occurred Urucum mutation is identical (only on a different lipochrome basis),  because of the same characteristics: - colouring of beak, leg, toes and nails - presence of so-called cobalt effect, (equal colouring   throughout of the plumage in area of abdomen) - autosomal recessive inheritance According to the reports both mutations appeared independently of each other. This also applies to the bec jaune appearances that have occurred in the years 2014, also in Spain by the breeder Mrs. Susana Mondelo and 2015 in Italy. In 2016 Mrs. Susana Mondelo bred the bec jaune mutation into a lutino canary. The first bec jaune canary it was presented publicly at the World Championship in Almeria (Spain) in January 2017, when the process of the official recognition was started (as of today [2018] the recognition has not yet taken place). The bec jaune mutation is also present in European green finches (Carduelis chloris) and European goldfinches (Carduelis carduelis).
